What the ratings mean
Each area gets a ride rating from Great to No-go, built from the National Weather Service forecast for that spot: thunderstorms, rain, wind gusts, heat, cold, snow, smoke and dust. Trail surface matters too. X4D keeps a running estimate of recent rainfall at every area, so it can tell you when dirt trails are likely muddy, when rock is wet and slick, or when rain has packed the sand. Any active warning for flash floods, severe storms, high wind or extreme heat sets the rating to No-go.
The ratings are a planning tool, not a guarantee. How X4D works explains the details, and the guides below cover how weather affects riding.
